The Photography of Tok Braun

Each subject is a human interpretation of what exists in the world. It is editing in its most simple form. Someone has decided to create something and place it in the world. I try to find that object, capture its essence, and freeze it in time.

Little Creatures

Little Creatures takes a look at how small we are when taken in proper context. Narrow roads snaking through a vast desert; a tiny figure making their way out into an endless sea; or a tiny plane disappearing into a towering cloud; all of these images are gentle reminders that we occupy less than a grain of sand on a beach, yet can rival the impact of a hurricane. This story is more than less pragmatic. It is meant to be measurable.

Surrender

Surrender is an emotional exploration of things that to some may be mundane; the sky, the sea, the mountains and storms. They are near permanent, repetitive and easy to ignore. As with anything or anyone one comes across, it takes effort to truly know them. Surrender explores seeing these things as they are, in a quiet but explosive moment; full of color which hopefully provokes a feeling.

In My Tribe examines identity, be it a person, a group, an icon, a location or even an emotion. As similar as we all are, we endeavor to define ourselves as unique. In My Tribe looks at how moment to moment, we seek ways to express our individuality, and if one looks hard enough, we can find that expression not only in ourselves, but also in our creations.
